Director / Producer / Casting-Director / Editor

This film is a music video projekct created as part of the 2nd semester of the Media Design program at the Hannover University of Applied Arts and Sciences.

The concept

of the music video is to capture the bioelectrical signals of a human body during a dance choreography with a synthesizer and visualize them through vibration. It is intended to reflect the increasing limitations of human freedom imposed by laws and social pressure to perform. A ballerina acts as the choreographer for the concept, and becomes a human puppet under social pressure.

Bioelectric signals

are the sum of the action potentials of cells at an anatomical site such as the heart, brain, or skeletal muscle. The action potential is an electrical signal that accompanies the mechanical contraction of a single cell when it is stimulated by an electric current, either neuronally or externally.

Synthesizer

The sound of a synthesizer is based on one or more oscillators, electronic circuits that generate electric vibrations. These vibrations are later converted into audible sound waves by the speakers of your amplifier system.

Cymatics

is a subset of modal oscillation phenomena. The term was coined by the Swiss physician Hans Jenny. Typically, the surface of a plate or membrane is vibrated, and areas with maximum and minimum displacement are visualized in a thin layer of particles, paste, or liquid. Different patterns occur in the excitation medium, depending on the plate’s geometry and travel frequency.

The location

for the music video is the construction site of the abandoned D-Tunnel under the city of Hanover, whose construction began on December 7, 1995, but remains unfinished to this day.
